Form — the next generation of arrangement

Form is XY StudioTools' new generation of arrangement tool for Ableton Live, replacing Song Sketch. It turns your own loops into a song structure that you can continue developing in Live's Arrangement View. If you're new to XY's arrangement tools, start with Form.

Form — Styles that adapt to your material

A Form Style describes an arrangement shape: its sections, which musical roles play in each section, and its energy or tension curve.

Form adapts that shape to your parts, expanding or simplifying arrangement lanes to fit the material in your Live set. The same Style can therefore produce different arrangements for different sets of loops.

You can edit Styles and save them directly from the Form device, building your own library of reusable arrangement ideas.

Form works from clips, track names, labels, and settings rather than analysing the audio itself. Check the detected part types, choose a Style, review the preview, and click Arrange to place the result in Live.

Read the Styles and templates guide for choosing by genre, comparing collections, pack overlap, and making Styles your own.

Coming from Song Sketch?

Song Sketch uses editable arrangement templates. Form builds on that approach with Styles that adapt to the material in your set. Editing and saving your own arrangements is part of both tools.

Your Song Sketch 2 templates are compatible with Form and can be used as Styles.

For help with your existing Song Sketch setup, see the Song Sketch manual and tutorials.

What do I need to run Form?

Form requires Ableton Live 11 or 12 Suite, or Standard with Max for Live as an add-on. Check the Form manual for the full system and Max version requirements.
